Shoreham Baptist Church Welcome

We warmly welcome everybody and anybody to visit or join us. We meet in the centre of Shoreham-by-Sea. This website will tell you a bit about us [maps, service times] and the activities that we do.

We also aim to give serious replies to big questions like 'who is God?'; to talk about our lives & experiences, and to share some of our interests.

About us at Shoreham Baptist Church

We are a group of fairly ordinary people, sharing the same interests, experiences, joys and sorrows as you. some of the church members You will find accountants, businessmen, children, doctors, parents, pensioners, programmers, scientists, teachers, teenagers - though no zoologists yet!

Some are well off, some are poor, some are healthy, some are ill. Some are married - some happily but some struggling, some are single, some are divorced. Some have problems with money or drink or relationships, some with depression or anger or anxiety. Some have too much work, some don't have any.

But all have experienced something of the love of Jesus in their lives. All have a part to play in our community, and we encourage everyone to develop their talents and creativity.

The journey of life

The heart of christianity is about a restored relationship with God, and healing relationships with each other.

At every choice we either turn toward God or walk away from Him. We all need the help, advice, encouragement and support of others.

We know that one of the major problems that people have with christianity can be the church itself. Sometimes it is judgemental attitudes, other times it is our words or actions that have caused hurt; for these we are deeply sorry.

Come and join us as we seek to follow the one perfect man - Jesus, ask questions, talk & walk with us.

Food for thought

It is said that, in the Roman empire:

  • the people thought that all religions were equally true.
  • the philosophers stated that all religions were equally false.
  • the rulers believed that all religions were equally useful.

Sounds familiar! In this postmodern society, we are told that we can choose what is right and wrong for us - there are no absolutes.

But if that is true, then there is no such thing as right or wrong. The worst atrocities, the most loathsome vileness are merely events in history which cause us to feel a bit queasy - a purely meaningless flow of atoms. Even the most ardent materialist cannot live with that in real life.

However, if God has created the universe, and if He has spoken to us in the bible, then we can live lives where there is both form and freedom.
