Shekinah playgroup
Shekinah playgroup is part of Shoreham Baptist Church. It is run for the community, and has an excellent reputation.

Ages: We accept children between 2½ to 5 years old
OFSTED: We are registered by OFSTED under the Childrens Act 1989 and are inspected by them both for the welfare and education of the children in our care. We receive Government funding which entitles your child to a free place [dependant on he date of birth[, when they are three years old. We follow guidelines for childrens learning given by the DfEE for curriculum planning.
Our aims
We have four aims main:
- To provide a fun, safe and caring environment where staff practice Christian values
- To acknowledge and value each child individual stage of development, ability, culture, religion and family background and respect each child for who they are.
- To provide a well balanced curriculum following the Early Learning Goals ad defined by the DfEE and to help each child reach their full potential, learning at their own pace.
- To make parents and carer's feel welcome in the group
Qualifications
Staff are well qualified and regularly attend training courses. Staff qualifications and training include:
- National Vocational Qualification - NVQ level 3
- Diploma in Pre-school practice
- Social Services Child protection training
- Curriculum planning
- Children with special needs

- Knowledge and understanding of the world

Activities
The programme of activities is structured to include craftwork, free play, physical play, story time, music, puzzles, construction toys etc and usually follows a half-termly theme.
Our themes include pets, the weather, colours, nursery rhymes, festivals around the world, bible stories and much more.

Parent representatives
Shekinah has parent representatives who organise various social events for parents and carers, and also the summer outing for children and parents - usually to a local farm
Key Workers
Each child is allocated a key worker when they start at playgroup. The keyworker is a member of the staff responsible for monitoring childrens individual progress using the WSCC Early Years development records,
You are always welcome to talk to your childs keyworker about your childs progress at any time!
